Spark Driver pay has three parts: trip earnings, tips, and incentives.
Trip earnings are calculated per offer; tips are added after customers confirm them; incentives are time-limited bonuses with specific rules.
Trip earnings (the base)
Base pay is not a fixed rate. It varies by distance, estimated time to drop-off, order size, and extras such as apartment access or heavy/bulky items.
These factors determine the amount you see on the offer card before you accept.
Importantly, the offer card shows an estimated total for the trip and includes any pre-delivery tip.
Tips (pre-tip vs. post-tip)
Customers can tip before or after delivery. Drivers keep 100% of customer-confirmed tips.
- Pre-tip: If a customer tips when ordering, that amount appears on your offer card. Customers can edit pre-tips for up to 24 hours after delivery.
- Post-tip: If a customer didn’t tip upfront, they can add a tip for up to 14 days after delivery. Post-tips don’t appear on offer cards because they don’t exist yet.
Tips typically move from “pending” to confirmed in about 24 hours, though it can take up to 48 hours to finalize and display the final amount in your Earnings tab.
If a customer changes a pre-tip, you’ll see the adjustment noted in the breakdown.

Those completed before Sunday 11:59 p.m. are typically distributed the following Tuesday by 8 p.m. PT.

Payout Methods and Timing
Spark currently offers two ways to receive earnings (availability can vary by zone and provider).
- ONE (a third-party financial app). After activation, trip earnings are deposited after every delivery—that is, instant for the trip component. The first week you activate, deposits begin on the Monday of the next earnings period.
- Direct deposit (ACH to your bank). Available in select zones; paid out on Tuesdays. Your bank may take up to three business days to make funds available.
A few nuances
Because customers can adjust or add tips, they are usually confirmed ~24 hours after delivery, and may take up to 48 hours to finalize and appear.
That means an “instant” trip payout via ONE does not necessarily include tips from deliveries in the last 24–48 hours—they arrive as they confirm.
These disburse on the schedule described above (often landing Tuesday evenings PT if completed in the prior week).

In 2024, a federal lawsuit by regulators referenced earlier payout arrangements used with Spark drivers.

If a store or customer cancels after you arrive, Spark pays an effort-based fee, which may increase depending on how far along you were in the trip.

These were paid as adjustments and did not involve charging customers after the fact.
Taxes and Documents
Spark Drivers are independent contractors. No taxes are withheld from payouts; you’ll receive 1099 tax forms to file annually.
